Music they say is the food of love and love conquers hate. Music is very powerful in the sense that it keeps our mind, soul, and body nourished with love and feel good hormone. Music give us good memory and help to heal from a broken heart as well as traumatic experience. Music help make one feel happy.
For me I have use music to help enhance my healing. Music help me to cope with the enormity of my psychological and emotional distress after my discharge from hospital with a diagnosis of psychosis as well as accelerate my recovery journey. I have DJ for so many years and still now when am experiencing a low mood and perceptual abnormalities, I use music to energise myself. There are different types of music, for example music for relaxation, reminiscence, healing, love, and those that reminds one of sad times. It is also important to know that certain type of music can even make one vent their anger in a wrong way. So I will advice that people are mindful of what sort of music they listen to. That being said Music has been shown to help in mental health recovery. Several research has pointed to the effectiveness of music in mental health recovery and this is why you may have observed, that even in hospital wards recently, music is use to help improve service users mood.
Music is therapeutic and invaluable in coping with mental health illness. I must say that music alone cannot help you with your recovery journey, you have to take your prescribed medication, have good protective factors, as well as have talking therapies.
